FAQ
HOW IS A PIANO PHYSICALLY DIFFERENT FROM A PIANO?
-
A piano is "the recumbent one", a piano is "upright standing".
-
A piano usually has 88 keys and a scale starting with the A2 sound.Their lengths start from140 cm(so-called cabinet) to 320 cm (so-called concert).
-
Upright pianos measure from 105 cm to 140 cm in height
WHAT ARE THE PEDALS IN THE PIANO AND GRAND PIANO USED FOR?
-
Pedal forte - right-hand pedal, most commonly used. Lengthens the sound, by raising the attenuators. At the same time, you can play more notes while the previous ones are still sounding....
-
Piano pedal - left pedal, dampens and shortens the sound of sounds, by moving the mechanism and keyboard to the right
-
Pedal sostenuto (middle pedal in a piano) - the middle pedal. It is usually found in more expensive piano models. It is rarely used, and is used to stop damping the currently pressed keys
-
The middle pedal in a piano - is a pedal , which is used for "quieter playing". When the pedal is pressed - inside the instrument slides a felt bar (called a moderator) between the strings and hammers to mute the sound.
INSTRUMENT acoustics?
i.e. strings, tuners, bridges, bottom and the cast iron frame placed on it
-
The tuning peg in an instrument is otherwise known as "our car" engine. The pins driven into it hold the tension on average 13-15 tons in a piano and 20-22 tons in a grand piano. If it is necessary to replace such a tuner because it shows cracks, it must be a specially manufactured plywood glued with multiple layers, resistant to moisture and temperatures. A cracked tuner causes the instrument to be out of tune, as the pins driven into it do not hold the string tension constant.
-
The resonance bottom - is a board of specially dried spruce planks , on which the frame lies. When it is cracked - its elevation loses its value, and especially the reflected sound (the so-called resonance).
-
Bridges - are longitudinal pieces of wood glued to the bottom. They are responsible for the vibration of the strings and any breakage will cause the instrument to be out of tune
-
String tension - these are steel and bass strings. Special load calculations for the instrument and matching their thickness is responsible for good sound
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REPAIR A PIANO?
This, of course, depends on the condition of the instrument and the type of work that needs to be done. The evaluation of the instrument begins with the acoustics, which is the "engine" of the whole. If the acoustics are to be completely renovated, the cost ranges from an average of 7000-8500 PLN. Then you need to adjust the existing mechanism and keyboard and tune the instrument, which will cost about 4000.zł These are the most common necessary repair activities to make the instrument play and tune. If we want to renovate it completely (including the case and complete renovation of the mechanics and keyboard) then the cost is from about 20 000 to 24 000 pln. The renovation process is carried out by professionals in this field, which requires years of experience, appropriate tools and specialized materials.
